In my last Q&A, I tackled a big question: Can TMG help you build muscle after 50? The answer? It’s complicated—but promising. TMG (trimethylglycine) supports methylation, aids recovery, and may even boost insulin sensitivity (which helps shuttle nutrients into muscle instead of fat). But here’s the kicker… if you’re making this one critical mistake in the gym, no supplement, no amount of protein, and no “biohack” is going to save you. Are You Stopping Too Soon?

Most guys over 50 quit their sets too early—just when the real muscle-building magic is about to happen. You feel the burn, you think you’ve done enough, and you rack the weight. But growth happens past that burn, in the reps where your muscles are screaming for mercy.

See, when we were younger, we could get away with half-hearted training. Higher testosterone, better recovery, and overall resilience meant we didn’t need to push as hard. Not anymore. Now, we need to maximize every set and take our muscles to true momentary failure—the point where another rep just isn’t happening.

This is why guys doing the same workouts they did in their 30s are spinning their wheels in the gym. They’re moving weight, but they’re not forcing their muscles to adapt.
